Dear
SCREENWORKS member
|
Welcome to Screenworks
last E-
newsletter
for 2008!
|
What a year it has been for SCREENWORKS.
We've had Film Festivals, Industry Visits, Reel Talk, Tricks of the
Trade, Workshops on TV Scriptwriting, Final Cut Pro and Music
Composition for the Screen. Our members have attended Development
Clinics, the New Media Incubator and Conference, and competed in
Life's A Pitch.
Many have been involved in Season 2 of "East of
Everything", you've made films, won accolades, been screened in
festivals and on national television, and your projects have been
commissioned and funded.
In short, SCREENWORKS continues to be the vibrant home of the
screen arts on the Far North Coast, and it is our members who have made
it so.
Like
you, we'll be taking a short break over the holidays, but we'll be back
in January with another exciting calendar of events designed to support
you - the filmmakers, video producers, editors, scriptwriters,
composers - content creators of every description.
But before we go, let's get together for one more time in 2008. Join us
for our End-of-Year get-together on Wednesday, December 10,
6PM
Details follow below, so keep
reading.

Peace and Joy,
Jill & Denise

LIFE'S A PITCH 2008 REVISITED
Every year the
standard of Life's a Pitch seems to take a leap forward, and 2008 was
no exception. In front
of an enthusiastic audience at the Byron Community Centre, we saw our
six finalists give it their all in front of our all-star panel of
judges. When the dust had settled, it was Susie Forster who went
home with the First Prize of a $2,000 travel grant, as well as the
People's Choice Award of a year's subscription to The Production Book
and a Season Pass to Byron Flickerfest. Just as exciting was the
reaction of both Courtney Gibson of the ABC and John Godfrey of SBS,
who expressed immediate interest in commissioning Susie's doco "True
Crimes of the Lone Avenger". We look forward to following its progress
to the screen.
Second
Prize went to Hannah Ross with her quirky Billycart doco "Kings of the
Hill".
Well
done to all our contestants who included Michael Balson & Mariani
Vermeend (Liquid Images), Rebecca Ingram (The Selling of a Black
Fellas' Dream), Dave Watson & Harley Graham (SMTV) and Guntis Sics
(Finger on the Pulse). The judges were most impressed with the standard
of all the pitches, and we hope to hear more about your projects in
future.
SCREENWORKS
also
wants to thank our fantastic MC, Ellen Briggs, who kept the evening
moving along and kept us laughing. An Honorary Mention has to go
to her Open Mic pitch for "Mullumbimby - The Movie".

There
are two people without whom Life's a Pitch would simply not exist -
Catherine Marciniak and Lyn McCarthy. Both of them contributed their
time and talents over and above the call of duty. Thank you so
much. Special thanks to Lyn for judging the Open Mic pitch where
she chose Amrita Hobbs and her project "Teen Sexuality-Too Hot to
Handle" as the winner.
The people who participate in Life's a
Pitch each year keep raising the bar for what we can produce here in
the Northern Rivers. If you have a project, but you hesitated to enter
this year, start now! No matter how far you proceed, you will not
regret it.
