'Surf and Turf' Best Documentary Award
Local filmmakers, Terry Bleakley and Lisa Sharpe have experienced some success at the recent Surf and Turf Film Festival, held over Easter in Evan’s Head and Casino. Lisa and Terry’s collaborative effort, Bill’s Team, was awarded Best Documentary at a gala awards night in the Casino Civic Hall. The doco was first shown in Bangalow last October and is about a team of volunteers in Lismore who care for a severely brain damaged young man. Terry and Lisa are not only very excited to have received this award, but are pleased that it presents another opportunity to publicise Bill’s story and attract more volunteers to help with his care and rehabilitation.

Congratulations also to Nick Zammitt and the 2007 Cert IV Screen students from Northern River Conservatorium of Arts Centre whose short film 'Expresso  Love' was  accepted  and screened at Surf and Turf Festival. To view the film go to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNh0ALr5VMg

Short Courses
Page to Screen

Venue:  Veranda Room, Byron Bay Community Centre
Cost: $130 for Screenworks members, $150 for non members, student discount $130.
How does a director take a script from the black and white type of the printed page and turn it into a film that not only creates, in sound and image, a world as real as the world around us, but which also tells the story in a way that fully realises all the emotive and dramatic qualities of the screenplay?  The answer is, by a combination of creative vision and highly disciplined professional practise.

“Page to Screen” is a distillation of Charlie de Salis’ 15 years professional experience as a director working across television commercials, corporate promotions, short films (selected for 26 international festivals, including Venice and Cannes), television drama and documentary.  The course provides a creative and logistical toolkit for developing drama directors, taking the filmmaking process from the director’s first read of the script, to the creation of a vision for the film, then into pre production, production, and post production.  For more information, please contact Charlie de Salis at cdesalis@bigpond.net.au

…employ compelling visuals and dialogue/audio tracks
…contain a minimum of two characters.

Great Moments in History animation can be made with any technique you wish. Possibilities include CG, 2D, 3D, Flash, Traditional Cell, Machinima (using license free engines and characters) or even stop motion.

All we want is for animators to create the best looking, best sounding and most entertaining animation possible.

Oh, and we want them to work well on a mobile phone. That means they have to be easy to see on a small screen and easy to hear through an even smaller speaker.

And we want them fast.
And we want them to be funny.

But that’s all. Guidelines and application forms can be obtained from the AFC website at www.afc.gov.au

ABC Lateline Story on the 40% Producer Offset

The ABC’s Lateline program highlighted the various arguments surrounding the 40% Producer Offset in a segment broadcast on Wednesday night. Interviews with Australian director George Miller and the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts, Peter Garrett, provide a revealing insight into the arguments surrounding the offset and who should be eligible. To view the story in full go to the ABC Lateline website.

Film Finance Corporation Australia
March 2008
The Producer Offset Division is pleased to inform you that the application for a final Certificate for the offset is now available to download here on the web.

We have also made some structural changes to the application for a provisional Certificate and would recommend that you use this new version ("revised March 2008") for any future applications.

We intend to put some further explanations of the workings of the offset on the website from time to time to assist you in better understanding the structure of the legislation and its interpretation.

From time to time we may also make small adjustments to the application forms and to the Guidelines as issues arise.

We would welcome any feedback you may care to give us on the process (NOT the legislation!) and its ease or difficulty, in order for us to assess the success of the system we have initiated.
