BLUESEAS FILMS SUCCESS AT CANNES
Local film makers, Robert Raymond and Leah Wright from Blueseas Films travelled to the Cannes film festival recently. They spoke with Lisa O'Meara about their trip.
Lisa: How did you fund your trip?
Robert and Leah: Screen NSW came through with funds to cover partial costs which we allocated to our airfares. The remainder we covered ourselves.
Lisa: What were your key objectives in going to Cannes?
Robert and Leah: We had several objectives. Firstly to support one of our priority projects in development Snugglepot & Cuddlepie 3D - in terms of finance and distribution. We attended scheduled meetings along with new meetings set whilst there. We had successful outcomes on both fronts and are now progressing that project.
A second project was also progressed in a similar way. Our final priority was to support Going Vertical and our sales agent as that project was at market. This support was based mainly around the pool at the majestic... They do a great cosmo in cannes. Mick jagger kept hovering around our table trying to get in on the deal but we kept the chatter light... We all know he has loose lips. Evenings were spent eating on the croisette and touching base with the right people.
Lisa: Tells us about your experiences as Australian independent producers at Cannes - do you have any advice for other local producers?
Robert and Leah: Spread yourself around and talk to everyone. We set up finance for another project on the train to the monaco grand prix. Stay positive. Wear flat shoes.
Lisa: What were some of the highlights from your trip?
Robert and Leah: Grand prix. Cheese. Fish soup. Petite Paris our favourite restaurant. La Chunga our favourite bar - outrageous but unforgettable.
Lisa: Do you have any good goss you would like to share with Screenworks members....?
Robert and Leah: That would be a fatal mistake but I can strongly advise you go at least once and find some of your own. I can, however, confirm though that those lips really are huge.
