Voices in my head: writing dialogue that works
BYRON BAY WRITERS FESTIVAL
Friday August 6th 1.30pm - 2.30pm
Voices in my head features playwright and screenwriter Hannie Rayson, novelist Kate Veitch and actor, novelist and screenwriter Tasma Walton, wrangled by notable editor Virginia Lloyd. Under discussion will be the essential art of creating credible dialogue and three women are experts in the field.
In Tasma's case, of course, there is the added perspective of an actor who must speak the words of others on a professional basis. What do you do when the actor says "My character wouldn't say that." Can the writer simply say "well, my character does"? How does the creative relationship work betwen writer and performer: how does a fiction writer create dialogue to be read on a page? Are the techniques different? This is the basis of a session that wil appeal to practitioners and those simply wanting to know how it's done.
Day passes are available on line www.byronbaywritersfestival.com or from Jetset in Byron p 6685 6262
